Finding the Place Where God Is Seen and Felt: What's Church Got To Do With It?
A talk for the public on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM
We are thrilled to host Emra Farkas, a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker, to hear her talk “Finding where God is seen and felt – what’s church got to do with it?” Everyone—and we mean everyone—is welcome to join us for this free, in-person talk.
“A new kind of thinking is needed to recognize that God’s goodness and love are actually here and tangible to all humanity everywhere,” says Ms. Farkas. “The idea of ‘church’ can shift from being a physical building, a set time on a particular day, or an assembly of perfect humans (does that even exist??), to that of being what God builds in our lives every moment through us responding to Christ Jesus’ message of God’s all-powerful love.”
Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Ms. Farkas will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy.
Emra Farkas has been a Christian Science practitioner for many years, helping people on a daily basis through this scientific approach to prayer. She travels from her home base in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to speak to audiences as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
Church services and meetings
Sunday morning church services run one hour and are held in our auditorium every week at 10:30 AM. Everyone is welcome. For children and youths under the age of 20, our Sunday School meets at the same time.
Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM, we hold a meeting for sharing of experiences, testimonies and remarks which attest to the healing power of Christian Science. Everyone is welcome.
Child care is available in our Children's Room for infants and small children who are not yet ready to attend our Sunday School or Wednesday evening meetings.
We're open on Thanksgiving Day
For more than a century, Christian Scientists around the world have gathered with family, friends, and visitors for a special Thanksgiving sermon and for sharing accounts of healings. This year's meeting will be Thursday, November 28 at 10:30 AM and will last one hour. We hope you will join us! No collection will be taken.
